The aim is to create an infrastructure for charging stations for electric vehicles in new buildings, renovations and existing buildings. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The GEIG implements a requirement from the EU Buildings Directive for the development of charging and wiring infrastructure for electric mobility in buildings. The aim of the law is to accelerate the expansion of the necessary charging infrastructure for e-mobility and thus create flexible charging options for users of electric vehicles. <\/p>\n<p>Specifically, the law provides for the following regulations:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Residential building<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New construction: <\/strong>If there are more than 5 parking spaces, all parking spaces must be equipped with empty conduits for electrical cables.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Refurbishment:<\/strong> If there are more than 10 parking spaces, all parking spaces must be equipped with empty conduits for electrical cables.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Non-residential buildings<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">New construction: <\/span>For more than 6 parking spaces, every 3rd parking space must be equipped with empty conduits for electric cables. A charging station must also be installed. <\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 600;\">Refurbishment:<\/span> If there are more than 10 parking spaces, every 5th parking space must be equipped with empty conduits for electric cables. A charging station must also be installed. <\/li>\n<li><strong>Existing:<\/strong> From January 1, 2025, a charging station must be implemented for more than 20 parking spaces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, a so-called neighborhood approach was also included in the draft law. There are exceptions for buildings (NWG) owned and used by SMEs (small or medium-sized enterprises) or if the cost of retrofitting charging points in existing buildings exceeds 7% of the total cost of refurbishment or major renovation. <\/p>\n<p>The law will be discussed in the Federal Council on March 5, 2021.
