QNG – Quality seal for sustainable buildings

The Sustainable Building Quality Seal was developed by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building(BMWSB) to promote a uniform understanding of sustainability and at the same time to create a legally secure basis for the allocation of subsidies.

Until recently, the federal subsidy for efficient buildings (BEG) required the building to be certified as an efficiency house with a sustainability class (NH class). This meant that the state quality seal for sustainable buildings was also mandatory, as this provided the necessary proof for the subsidy. In March 2023, the NH class subsidy for new builds was replaced by the BEG subsidy for climate-friendly new builds, which looks at sustainability performance throughout the entire life cycle. The requirements of the quality seal must also be met for this funding. However, the NH class remains relevant for refurbishments and offers attractive funding opportunities.
