DGNB special eco-label award
The joint building certificate of the DGNB and HafenCity Hamburg GmbH
In Hamburg, four major urban development projects are being driven forward under the management of HafenCity Hamburg GmbH and its subsidiaries: HafenCity, Billebogen, Grasbrook and Science City Hamburg Bahrenfeld. In order to ensure consistently high sustainability standards in these districts, sustainability certification has been a prerequisite for the awarding of land since 2010. Since 2017, all new buildings have had to achieve the highest level of HafenCity’s in-house certification system. In 2023, this system was replaced by the DGNB special environmental label, which was developed in collaboration with the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
The DGNB Special Ecolabel Award integrates key elements of the previous “HafenCity 3.0 Ecolabel” certification system and combines them with the advantages of the DGNB system. It is based on both the DGNB system for new buildings and the current version of the system for buildings in operation. By incorporating specific requirements from HafenCity Hamburg GmbH’s previous certification system, the award is optimally tailored to the special features of the four urban development areas, with a particular focus on environmental sustainability.
