20.03.2012 Thomas Hoinka has to be trained as BREEAM in Use auditor. BREEAM in Use is the perfect opportunity to certify existing buildings in its portfolio.
Currently the UK’s version of BREEAM In-Use is applicable on all commercial buildings (assets) worldwide. Thereby an asset can be defined as an individual room, an individual floor, an individual wing of a building or as the whole building. While the traditional certification systems to date were focused on the assessment of actual physical measures (new construction or renovation), BREEAM In-Use is uncoupling as far as possible from the actual construction process. It evaluates buildings in operation, irrespective of any actual construction work. In addition, currently an “international version” is being developed of BREEAM In-Use. The costs of the certification are significantly lower than those of the known certification systems for new constructions.
